  • Ultra-high resolution aerial imaging and AI-powered analytics reduce regulatory approval time by over two years
  • Enhanced automation streamlines responses to complex statutory information requests

SYDNEY, February 10, 2025 – Dendra, the leading platform for land and biodiversity management, has achieved a major milestone by expediting the formal relinquishment of over 1,500 hectares (ha) of rehabilitated land across two mine sites in Queensland’s Bowen Basin. By leveraging Ultra High-Resolution (UHR) aerial imagery, ecology-aware machine learning (ML), and automation, Dendra’s solution significantly reduced the time required for statutory approval of Progressive Rehabilitation and Closure (PRC) plans — accelerating the process by more than two years.

Dendra’s data-driven approach enhances site-wide management of invasive weeds, native flora restoration, and erosion control, improving response times to complex information requests (RFIs) from Queensland’s Department of Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation (DETSI). This increased efficiency provides greater certainty in achieving PRC plan approvals in a timely manner.

Transforming Mine Site Rehabilitation with AI

Under Queensland’s Mined Land Rehabilitation Policy, mining companies must submit a PRC plan to ensure disturbed land is restored to a stable, safe, and environmentally sustainable state. DETSI frequently issues RFIs to verify compliance with rehabilitation requirements, a process that can be lengthy and challenging.

Dendra’s AI-powered platform has been extensively deployed at the Jellinbah and Oaky Creek coal mines, near Emerald, Queensland, to drive weed management, native species regeneration, and erosion control. The platform’s advanced capabilities include:

  • AI-driven monitoring & analytics – High-resolution aerial imaging and machine vision AI provide precise, multi-period tracking of rehabilitation progress.
  • Automated compliance reporting – Digital verification accelerates responses to regulatory RFIs.
  • Integrated intervention management – A centralized system streamlines rehabilitation workflows from data collection to action.

"Our multi-period AI insights enable precise and efficient digital monitoring, reporting, and verification of rehabilitation progress against PRC targets," said Patrick O’Flynn, Vice President of Operations at Dendra"The ability to scale and accelerate asset relinquishment delivers immense value to the industry."
